Wimbledon 2022: I’m really happy with my performance – Novak Djokovic after beating Thanasi Kokkinakis in 2R

Number one seed Novak Djokovic was pleased with his performance after he cruised past Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round of the ongoing Wimbledon 2022 on Center Court on Wednesday. The Serbian wrapped up the match in just two hours as he dominated from the get-go.

Novak Djokovic broke the Australian’s serve in the second game of the opening set and it was one-way traffic from there. The World no. 79 did give some competition to Djokovic in the second set, however, the Serbian clinched it by 6-4 after breaking his opponent’s serve in the third game.

Djokovic continued his domination in the third set and Kokkinakis had no answers to his opponent’s onslaught. The Serbian was able to break Kokkinakis’ serve on five occasions throughout the game. Novak Djokovic won a total of 95 points while Kokkinakis could only bag 65 points.

Djokovic won 82% on first serve and came up with a complete performance. The Serbian’s serve was immaculate and he faced a solitary break point throughout the match.

“I’m very happy with my performance today,” said Djokovic in his on-court interview. “I thought I started off very well, very solid from the back of the court, made him work for every point that I managed to get his serve back in play. I tried to work him around the court, bring a lot of variety in the game.

“It was not easy to serve because of the wind, it was very swirly today on the court, so tough to toss the ball. But I think from my side overall, a really high-quality performance and I’m very pleased.”

Djokovic was pushed to four sets by South Korean Kwon Soon-woo in the first round, however, he lifted his game to another level against the Australian.

“I must say that I’m quite pleased with the way that I raised the level of tennis in two days,” said Djokovic. “Hopefully I can keep that trajectory, keep getting better as the tournament progresses. I’m obviously just thinking about the next challenge and hopefully things will get better and better.”

Djokovic was delighted with his great outing and will look to carry forward the same impetus. The Serbian is one of the biggest favorites for the Championship as he has won the prestigious title in the last three editions.

The reigning champion will next face compatriot Miomir Kecmanović in third round on Friday.
