Manchester City goalkeeper out of FA Cup final

Manchester City’s Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson will miss out on the team’s final League game of the season against West Ham United on Sunday and the FA Cup final against Manchester United a week later.

Pep Guardiola will have to stick with substitute goalkeeper Stefan Ortega in both fixtures, just like he did for the final 20 minutes of Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham on Tuesday in North London.

The match saw Manchester City return to the top of the table and also put them in proper control of the Premier League title race. Goalkeeper Ederson was knocked out by defender Christian Romeo in the 69th minute of the game, and Ortega replaced him. The German goalkeeper made some incredible and crucial saves in the game, especially in denying South Korean Son Heung-Min in the closing stages.

Manchester City must match or improve Arsenal’s result on Sunday to be crowned champions. Should Manchester City fail to win against West Ham, victory against Everton will make the Gunners the Premier League champion for the first time in 20 years.

Manchester City will also have the opportunity to secure the FA Cup trophy when they face their City rivals Manchester United at Wembley on May 25. Meanwhile, tests have now confirmed the degree of the injury of Ederson, who has suffered a fractured eye socket.

The injury is not expected to make him miss out on the Copa America with Brazil this summer, where he has been called up among the goalkeepers for the Selecao.
