UCL: Barcelona vs Bayern Munich Match Preview

Barcelona will host Bayern Munich on Wednesday in one of the three matchdays of the UEFA Champions League – but not at the infamous Camp Nou, which is currently undergoing massive renovations.

The game will, however, be staged at the 54,000 seater Olympic Stadium in Catalonia, where Barcelona will look to get one over the former employers of their current manager, Bayern Munich.

The game is expected to reignite one of the greatest rivalries in European football when the two giants lock horns for the 16th time, during which the Catalans have struggled a great deal.

Hansi Flick’s men are without a victory in seven matches against any German opposition, recording one draw and six losses.

It may take a huge defensive debilitation to see Barca’s woeful record extend, considering that at the start of this round, no Champions League side can boast a longer run of games in the competition proper having found the net than Barcelona’s eight.

Just like Bayern Munich, they have lost one and won one in the Champions League this season and are in need of all three points.

And it looks like it could be the hosts who can come away with the win and take a much-needed three points off the German giants.

However, given that the last side to keep a clean sheet against Barca away from home is the Bavarians, Bayern may well expect to continue their dominance in this fixture, which has seen them score 15 unanswered goals against Barcelona.

Vincent Kompany’s men are coming into this fixture on the back of a 3-0 win over Stuttgart at the weekend to stay top of the table – a fixture in which Harry Kane bagged his sixth hat-trick for the German giants.

Bayern’s impressive record against the Spaniards will surely be up on Wednesday, but the ruthlessness of the hosts upfront is expected to help them claim a win over their German counterparts.
