Bayern Munich have made the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann official.
“When we signed Julian Nagelsmann for Bayern in the summer of 2021, we were convinced that we would work with him for the long term, and this was also the goal of all of us until the end,” said club CEO Oliver Kahn.
“Julian shares our aspiration to play successful and attractive football. Now, however, we have noticed that the quality of our squad – despite having won the German championship last year – has shown itself less and less frequently. After the World Cup, we played less and less successful and in a less attractive way; the strong fluctuations in performance have called into question our goals this season but also beyond this season. That is why we have reacted now. Personally and on behalf of Bayern, I want to thank Julian and his coaching staff and wish everyone the best of luck for the future.”
For his part, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic said, “It has been the most difficult decision of my time as Bayern sports director. I have had an open, trusting, and friendly relationship with Julian since day one. I’m sorry about the separation. But after a careful analysis of the sporting evolution of our team, especially since January, and with the experience of the second half of the previous season, we have now decided together to release Julian. I am very grateful to Julian for what he has done for Bayern, and I wish him all the best.”
Thomas Tuchel will be the new Bayern coach who will sign for two seasons.
