Real Madrid’s Toni Kross signs contract extension

Real Madrid’s German midfielder, Toni Kross, has signed a one-year contract extension with the La Liga club until the end of the 2023/2024 season. The 33-year-old, who joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014, has won four UEFA Champions League titles with the Los Blancos since then.

The 33-year-old played 42 games in the UEFA Champions League and La Liga alone last season, taking his number of appearances for Real Madrid to 417. Since his move from Germany nine years ago, he has won 20 trophies with the club.

These include winning four Champions Leagues, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, three La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups.

He won the Copa del Rey title last season with Real Madrid and also led them to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they were knocked out by Manchester City, who went on to win the title, beating Inter Milan in the final.

The 2014 World Cup winner in Brazil had already hinted that he would be staying at the Santiago Bernabeu for next season towards the end of last season while talking about the position of some of his Real Madrid teammates.

“I have to ask the club when they are going to announce my renewal because I have to go on vacation at some point!” Kroos said.

The capital club has seen four major departures, with Karim Benzema leaving for Al Ittihad in Asia, Mariano Diaz being released, as well as Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio, who will join PSG for free.

Those are not the only exits that Real Madrid have confirmed this summer as coach Carlo Ancelotti has also been confirmed to be in his final season with the 2023/2024 season as he will depart to become the head coach of the Brazilian national team after the end of the incoming season.
