‘Marcelo is more than a teammate, a brother that football gave me’ – says Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid legend Marcelo has left the club after 15 long years of stay as he bagged several accolades with the Royal Whites. However, on his exit from the club, former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo penned a heartfelt message for the Brazilian great. He posted a picture with Marcelo and wrote a heartfelt caption for his former teammate with whom he was very close during their time in Madrid.

Marcelo has already cleared the air by confirming that he won’t be hanging his boots as of now but has not zeroed down on his next destination.

It was obviously a very emotional night for the Brazilian star as fans from all over the world penned heartfelt messages including former teammates Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, etc. Ronaldo shared how Marcelo was not just a teammates, he was a brother than he got on the footballing field as he wished the Brazilian the best for his upcoming endeavors. “More than a teammate, a brother that football gave me. On and off the fields, one of the biggest stars with whom I had the pleasure of sharing a locker room. Go with everything on this new adventure, Marcelo! ” Ronaldo captioned a picture of him with Marcelo on Instagram.

Ronaldo and Marcelo have been the best of friends during their time at Real Madrid as they fed off each other and helped Los Blancos win four Champions League together along with two La Liga titles during their time in Madrid. They also won two Copa Del Rey and as many FIFA Club World Cup titles together.

Marcelo once shared that he started off on the wrong footing with Ronaldo as they fought in an international fixture. But later when the Portuguese and the Brazilian became teammates they started building a great relationship. They were often spotted together in practice sessions and even off the field as they developed a great bond.

Speaking about Marcelo’s first impression regarding Ronaldo and what the Portuguese means to him, the Brazilian shared, “He knows what is best for himself. As a friend, not only as a teammate, the decision he makes this year, next year, or in a decade, I will be there to support him. The first time I saw Ronaldo, we ended up fighting in an international fixture. But we have a very good relationship, not only on the pitch, also off it. He is a great professional, he also helps his teammates very much, and he is happy when a teammate scores or provides an assist.”

All in all it will be interesting to see where Marcelo ends up this summer as he still has a lot of juice left in him to keep on playing at the top level.
