Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa rubbishes the claims of him signing a two year extension with the club

Argentine publication La Nacion recently reported that Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is all set to sign a two-year extension with the Whites. However, the veteran tactician has poured water on such reports claiming the information to be not real.

With almost two months remaining in his contract, Bielsa has told earlier that he will take a call on his future at Elland Road after sitting down with the club hierarchy and chalking out the best plan for both parties. He denied the report suggesting his extension at a press conference and also assured that information of his future with the club will be made soon at the end of the current season.

“That information is not real,” Bielsa told reporters ahead of Leeds United’s Premier League match against Liverpool. “I ignore the origin.

“Those things, either the club can say or I can say it, we are the ones who possess the information. In all cases, if there was any information to give, then I would give it.”

The Argentine tactician took charge of the Whites back in 2018 and in his full first season at the Championship he took them to the playoffs where they agonisingly lost to Derby County. The next season they returned with renewed zeal and this qualified for the Premier League by being the Championship winners. Bielsa ended the club’s 16-year wait to return to England’s top flight.

Bielsa last season also did the same thing, he kept on stalling talks about his future and later signed a one-year renewal right at the start of the season.

His indomitable passion for the sport and his unique philosophy make Leeds a great and exciting team to watch. Also, they have been superb this season as their aim for a top 10 finish looks like a reality. The Whites have won back to back three matches in the Premier League and will be looking to continue that form when they host Liverpool. If they win then it will be for the first time in 20 years Leeds will manage to win four successive matches in the top-flight.

However, Bielsa feels that the history and the heritage that Leeds already has is way bigger than this mere record. As he added: “I have always said that the dimension of the institution at Leeds is very big. The sporting past of Leeds is full of very high points.

“To win four games in a row in the Premier League compared to all the things that Leeds have achieved, of course, it will give us great happiness, but if you compare it to all the things Leeds have achieved in their sporting history, it’s not so big,” he continued.

“To be able to be at the height of some of their past successes, some extraordinary things need to be done and we are quite far away from being there,’ he concluded.

While it looks difficult but Leeds have recently staged an upset against the league leaders Manchester City and if they can play in that manner then they may take the Reds as well.
