This weekend, British boxer Richard Riakporhe would go against Italian Fabio Turchi in a cruiserweight eliminator fight. This would be Riakporhe’s second fight of the year, and he would seek to preserve his unbeaten record of 14 wins from 14 fights. He currently holds the WBC Silver cruiserweight title.
In March, he knocked out Deion Jumah after barely eight rounds. Now he is back again and set to take the stage in one of the most anticipated cruiserweight fights of the year.
Ahead of the fight, Riakporhe has already talked tough. According to him, he would bring pain to Turchi as he promised to hurt his opponent. He said, “We want to bring explosive nights, explosive finishes, and show the world how great we are, so we’re definitely going for the knockout, and I’ve had a few dreams. I feel like Fabio is going to get really hurt on Saturday night.”
“I didn’t take him lightly in preparation. We made sure we covered all areas to make sure we’re ready to deliver what we want to deliver on the night.”
But his opponent is no small fry. Turchi has a record of 20 wins from 21 fights. As an amateur boxer, he won gold, silver, and bronze for representing his country. In 2021, he won the EBU Cruiserweight title after defeating Dylan Bregeon. His only loss came from a split decision after facing Tommy McCarthy back in. 2019.
Still, Riakporhe is quite determined that he would emerge victorious. He has been training hard with Anthony Joshua’s coach Angel Fernández, and believes all his hard work would pay off.
The fight between Riakporhe and Turchi would hold this Saturday, June 11, at the SSE Arena, Wembley.
