Novak Djokovic insisted that his journey is still not over and he wants to win more titles, particularly Grand Slams. Djokovic bagged his 23rd Grand Slam title after beating Casper Ruud in straight sets at the Phillipe Chatrier in Paris on Sunday.
Ergo, the Serbian became the most successful male Tennis player of all time, leapfrogging his rival Rafael Nadal’s tally of 22 Majors. Furthermore, the veteran became the first player to win every Grand Slam on at least three occasions.
Djokovic has won 10 Australian Open titles, seven Wimbledons, and three each Roland Garros and US Open crowns in his glittering career. The veteran Serbian feels there is still some fuel left in his tank and he is not done yet as he is motivated to win more.
“[The] journey is still not over,” Djokovic said. “I feel, if I’m winning slams, why even think about, you know, ending the career that already has been going on for 20 years? So I still feel motivated, I still feel inspired to play the best tennis in these tournaments the most, you know, grand slams. Those are the ones that count, I guess, the most in the history of our sport.”
Djokovic has now claimed 23 Grand Slam titles, which makes him the most successful and one of the greatest of all time. However, the Serbian doesn’t want to call himself the greatest as he feels it will be disrespectful to other champions.
“I don’t want to say that I am the greatest because I feel, I’ve said it before, it’s disrespectful towards all the great champions in different eras of our sport that were played in a completely different way than it is played today,” Djokovic said.
“So I feel like each great champion of his own generation has left a huge mark, a legacy, and paved the way for us to be able to play this sport in such a great stage worldwide.”
Djokovic also added he is already looking forward to the upcoming Wimbledon, which will begin on July 3.
