Novak Djokovic enjoying the attention he is getting at the Tokyo Olympics

Novak Djokovic breezed past Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round and is looking in fantastic touch in the Tokyo Olympics. The World No. 1 defeated the German tennis star in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in a match that last a little over one hour. With this win, Djokovic now progresses to the round of 16.

The 34-year-old is enjoying his time at the Tokyo Olympics. Djokovic is easily one of the most popular sportspeople in the world and he has enjoyed interacting with several athletes across different sports. The Serb feels that the mixing and interaction of different cultures is what makes the Olympics special.

“I’m having a lot of fun on the court and I’m having a lot of fun in the village,” Djokovic said. “For individual athletes like us, this is a very unique experience. It is special for any athlete to be part of the Olympic Games representing his or her own country.”

“The Olympics is the only place where you get to feel that team spirit,” Djokovic went on. “That energy that I try to thrive on and use for my performance, and it has been working well so far.”

It is a special moment for the Serb to participate in the Tokyo Olympics. He is currently chasing the historic Calendar Golden Slam and therefore he has received a lot of attention from the fans. Djokovic recently admitted that he is enjoying the attention he is getting over the last few days.

“I’m representing my country and myself, but I’m also representing tennis,” Djokovic said. “So it (the attention) is a huge honour, honestly. I am very happy to see there’s a lot of attention towards tennis players. There’s a lot of people that follow tennis and give us support. For me of course it feeds me with good energy to perform well.”

“I try to focus on that,” he added. “I know there is a lot of following and a lot of expectations. I know history is on the line, (it) is in my thoughts, it’s in my heart. But I’ve got to keep things quite simple for me in order to get to the desired destination.”

Djokovic was not very sure about his participation in the Tokyo Olympics a few months ago. But now after experiencing the varied culture of the Summer Games, he feels that he has made the right decision.
