Djokovic begins French Open campaign with a win on the first day

Former world number one, Novak Djokovic, began his French Open campaign on a positive note. The Serbian defeated Aleksandar Kovacevi in a game of three sets to extend his stay in France.

Djokovic, a Paris champion on two occasions, displayed his dominance with a commanding 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Kovacevic. The world number one showcased his skill and precision, leaving no room for his opponent to challenge his authority on the court.

Meanwhile, US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz delivered a stellar performance, cruising to a straight-sets victory of 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 against Flavio Cobolli of Italy. Alcaraz’s impeccable form and unwavering determination propelled him to a convincing win, earning him a well-deserved spot in the next round.

Excitement filled the air when Djokovic and Alcaraz found themselves placed in the same half of the draw, setting the stage for a potential clash in the semi-finals. With their impressive starts to the tournament, fans eagerly anticipate the possibility of witnessing a captivating battle between these two formidable players.

Alcaraz, the rising star from Spain, breezed through the first two sets of his match, showcasing his exceptional talent and skill. Despite a slight resurgence from Cobolli in the third set, Alcaraz maintained his composure and sealed the victory, converting his fifth match point to secure his progression.

Reflecting on his impact on the sport, Alcaraz expressed his joy in bringing a renewed sense of enjoyment and passion to his fellow players. “I heard that Stefanos said he was starting to enjoy his tennis more because of me,” Alcaraz revealed. “For me, it’s the most important thing to enjoy and smile on court.”

While Djokovic claimed a straight-sets victory, he faced a brief challenge in the form of a third-set tie-break against Kovacevic. The Serbian maestro experienced a momentary lapse in concentration, allowing Kovacevic to break his serve and force a tie-break. However, Djokovic’s experience and resilience shone through as he dominated the tie-break, securing his path to the next round.

Looking ahead, Djokovic sets his sights on a clash with Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in the upcoming match while Alcaraz prepares to face Japan’s Taro Daniel. As the tournament progresses, the excitement intensifies, and the players gear up for further tests of skill, resilience, and the pursuit of glory on the hallowed clay courts of Roland Garros.
