Ubettabelieveit made both his trainer, Nigel Tinkler, and rider, Oisin Murphy, proud on Thursday after winning the National Stakes at Sandown. Murphy did a good job leading the energetic horse, driving it ahead of other rivals
Deliver the Dream and Eye of Heaven were ahead of Ubettabelieveit, till its rider charged it forward to victory. Wings Of A Dove came second but was not close enough to the winner, while Mcmanaman came third. Eye of Heaven, ridden by Frankie Dettori slid to sixth, the last position.
Speaking after the race, trainer Tinkler expressed his joy at winning his horse coming first and winning a Listed prize. He said, “He was probably travelling nearly too well. He got there a little bit too soon, but I’m very happy. It’s nice to get a Listed winner at Sandown. His sectional times for his last race were quite quick.
“Those last two furlongs were pretty good. I think he’s going to get a fair handicap mark, so we had to come, but it might not have been the best National Stakes we’ve had. He was kept wide a bit, which wasn’t to our advantage. Things didn’t quite go to plan, but we’re more than happy with the result.”
Tinkler also said that he plans to put the horse in the Roses Stakes, which is another Listed contest, next month, and would see what Murphy thinks of the idea. Murphy also expressed his delight at winning, also stating that the race did not go according to plan. This would be the horse’s second win, having won its last race at Doncaster and its third start.
Eye of Heaven, a favourite, failed to meet expectations. There had been hopes that he would make up for his failure at the Royal Ascot tournament but did not meet up with it.
