Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has put his weight behind Team India to win the final Test match at Brisbane against Australia.
Brisbane is Australia’s fortress as the hosts have an impeccable record at the venue. The hosts have not lost a Test match at the Gabba since 1988.
Meanwhile, India have played six Test matches at the Gabba, Brisbane out of which they have lost five games whereas one had ended in a draw in 2002-03 tour. However, Gavaskar believes there is always a first time and he feels the Indian team has a bowling unit to rattle the Australian team.
“Yes, I know Gabba is Australia’s fortress. But India, in Bumrah, Saini and Siraj, have the ability to take on the Australians. That is their fortress, they have not lost there. But there is always a first time. If Ajinkya Rahane and company do it, I won’t be surprised at all,” Sunil Gavaskar said while talking to India today.
However, it should be noted that India have injury woes before the final Test match at Brisbane. Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the third Test match due to abdominal strain whereas Ravichandran Ashwin is also a doubtful starter due to a back injury.
Meanwhile, the Little Master believes it is going to be India’s one of best Test series win if they are able to win at the Gabba.
“It will probably be the best win because this is a very good Australian attack. With Smith and Labuschagne getting runs, it’s not been easy. So yes, winning this series will be a tremendous achievement and will rank as one of India’s best overseas wins,” Gavaskar added.
India has come hard fighting despite the injury problems throughout the tour. However, it is going to be easy for the tourists to win the Gabba Test if Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin, who are India’s best bowlers, are ruled out of the fourth Test. Already, Ravindra Jadeja and Hanuma Vihari have been ruled out due to dislocated thumb and hamstring injury respectively.
The fourth Test match will take place at the Gabba, Brisbane from January 15.
