Mikel Arteta is the man of the hour in the Premier League. All eyes are on the Spanish coach because his job is at risk.
Despite the club’s hierarchy saying it supports Arteta 100%, it is unlikely that they will forgive a fourth consecutive loss in the Premier League.
Moreover, most fans are looking forward to the Gunners falling to Norwich on Saturday’s matchday to see Arteta leave the Emirates.
For some experts, Arsenal’s problem is that the club overestimates Arteta’s abilities.
The Spaniard joined the club as head coach in December 2019, and in September 2020, he was named first-team manager.
The position of first-team manager gave him more responsibilities and more work, according to the statement issued by Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham.
“So in terms of how that will work, going forward Mikel will join a really strong team with Edu and they’ll be working really, really closely together to manage all the other elements of our football operations that are so important, whether that is analysis, recruitment, high performance or medical, they’ll be looking after those areas together.
“And they’ll also together be responsible for our technical recommendations, whether that’s players that we’re going to buy, whether that’s players that we’re going to sell, whether that’s players that we’re going to loan.” Venkatesham said.
But Arteta lacks the experience and knowledge to perform as a first-team manager, and it seems like he can’t handle the multitude of tasks that he must perform.
In fact, some coaches consider it too much for one person to take on so many responsibilities.
For example, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel appreciates focusing on just one job.
[It has] made a huge simplicity for me here because it has been only about coaching,” he said. “No second thoughts about bringing somebody in or letting somebody go. I embrace the simplicity. I hope I can continue to live like this on the job. Because it is pure fun, very exciting, very pure, the feeling I have right now. “
