Union Berlin completes Jordan Pefok signing

Union Berlin has secured the signature of Jordan Pefok from Swiss side, Young boys. With the Union’s fourth spell in the Bundesliga top flight and preparation for their second appearance in Europe, they have looked to reshape their attacking line by making Pefok their first signing.

This move comes immediately after the departure of Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi, who has joined the newly-promoted English Premier League side, Nottingham Forest, in a £17m deal.

The 26-year-old, who was the top scorer in the Swiss league last campaign with 22 goals for Young Boys, couldn’t hold back his excitement as he completed his move on Thursday.

“I am so happy joining a great club like Union Berlin. It has been my dream to play in one of the biggest clubs in Germany and also to show the fans and club what I’m capable of. “I can’t wait to start the season.” He added.

Union Berlin Club managing Director Oliver Ruhnert expressed his satisfaction at the American signing, saying he is a striker who will fit perfectly with the team.

“Jordan is a player we have been monitoring for a while, and we are happy to secure his services. His abilities to adjust to different styles of play and the attacking threat he possesses is exactly what we needed, and most importantly, we’re glad he chose the club”. He said.

It’s great to see Union getting a direct replacement for the departed Awoniyi. The American made his maiden appearance for the US National team with 1 goal in nine outings last year March after he had previously played for the French U21s.

Pefok became a mainstay in the Young boys’ team, scoring 27 goals in 45 games across all competitions. It’s safe to say Union Berlin has a proper forward to guarantee their goals next season.
