Ryan Giggs, the legendary former Manchester United player, might have an opportunity to make a comeback to the world of football in the cash-rich Saudi Arabian league. Despite facing allegations in a recent court case, a Middle East football expert believes that Giggs could be welcomed in the Gulf.
Known for his exceptional leadership skills and ability to guide young players, Giggs was once singled out by Sir Alex Ferguson himself as a potential manager for Manchester United. However, personal problems have hindered his path to a successful managerial career.
Recently, the 49-year-old received the news that domestic violence charges against him had been dropped. While moving to a British club to rebuild his career might spark controversy, Wael Jabir, a football expert in the region, suggests that Giggs could find an opportunity in the Saudi league.
Jabir stated: “I think he would be a welcome addition. Being coached by these top European players will help raise the league to the next level.”
Giggs has left a lasting legacy as English football’s most decorated player. With the charges withdrawn, he is reportedly “deeply relieved” and eager to return to work.
The allegations against Giggs involved assault and controlling or coercive behavior towards his ex-partner, Kate Greville. However, she chose not to give evidence against him, leading to the withdrawal of charges. Last year, the jury in the original case failed to reach a verdict.
While Giggs’ potential return to a British club might face challenges due to the previous allegations, the reaction in Saudi Arabia is expected to be different. The Gulf country has been criticized for having strict restrictions on women’s rights, making the scrutiny surrounding Giggs less hardline in comparison.
