Manchester United star signs contract extension

Portuguese international Bruno Fernandes signed a one-year contract extension on his current deal with Manchester United until 2027, with another option to extend the contract for a year. The 29-year-old joined Manchester United in 2020 from Portuguese club side Sporting Lisbon on a £47m deal.

He has played 234 matches scoring 79 goals and contributing 67 assists in that period but he has had to previously extend his contract in 2022 which was set to expire in 2026, now he has signed a year extension till June 2027.

The 71-time capped Portuguese international was made Manchester United captain last year replacing Harry Maguire. While revealing that he understands the responsibility and significance of wearing the United shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent the incredible club, he reiterated his passion to continue leading the team.

“Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United. I can see how positive the future is going to be and I am relishing leading this team forward. I have had so many special moments here already. Hearing my name sung from the Stretford End, scoring a hat-trick against Leeds, leading the team out at Old Trafford on European nights, and lifting trophies at Wembley.” Fernandes said.

The Portuguese international believes in the discussions with the football leadership and manager; it is clear how determined everyone is to fight for major trophies in the years ahead.

These comments are not surprising considering how controversial Bruno Fernandes’ topics have been at Old Trafford for seasons now, with Manchester United Legends criticizing his choice as a captain.

Furthermore, a sale had been in the plans as the player himself cast doubts about his Manchester United future ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City, in which United emerged as winners 2-1 in May.

Erik Ten Hag, who had also been at risk of being sacked, defended him, and both will be at Old Trafford when Manchester United usher in the 2024/2025 season with a fixture against Fulham on Friday.
