“I am not the owner of the club, “ Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone says when asked about Alvaro Morata’s potential move to Manchester United

Manchester United are in dire straits and they desperately need some form of inspiration both on and off the field. They need some signing to happen and also need the existing players to step up big time. The Red Devils lost 4-0 against Brentford in what was a very shambolic performance from them. But now before things get out of hand, manager Erik ten Hag wants to get some reinforcements in place.

According to several reports Manchester United are linked with Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata. The Spanish striker is someone who Ten Hag feels will fit right into his system and his prior Premier League experience with Chelsea also gives him some edge over other options.

However Atleti manager Diego Simeone wants Morata to stay in Madrid amid United links but he also shares how he is the manager of the tema and not the owner so he cannot make these decisions of who stays at the club and who leaves. While it felt like an attempt to keep hold of Morata by sharing his wishes in public, it remains to be seen what finally happens.

When asked about Morata, the Argentine manager shared, “I am not the owner of the club, I am the coach. Everyone at the club hopes he [Morata] continues.”

The Spanish striker started for Atleti in their opening La Liga fixture against Getafe where he scored a brilliant brace and looked hungry for more goals. He was simply sensational with his movement, position and on any other day he would have completed his hattrick. Atropine Griezmann scored the other goal in their 3-0 win over Getafe.

Speaking on his performances, Diego Simeone highlighted how Morata has shown great humility and confidence in his ability as he came back this season and he wants him to continue in this manner for the upcoming matches this season. Making his intentions clear to the board and management that the Spaniard is important to his setup.

“He is working very well, in an extraordinary way. I think that all footballers need to have confidence to do important things. He came back with great humility and wanting to work. He came back trying hard,” Simeone said about Morata’s performance against Getafe.

While Manchester United are in desperate need of a striker as they only have some reliability in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo. Marcus Rashford has looked a shadow of himself in the first two matches whereas Anthony Martial is still not fit enough to start games. So someone like a Morata will give them that required bite in attack and help them compete at the top level in the Premier League.
