Former Arsenal player Emmanuel Petit has come down hard on Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward grabbed the headlines when he left Old Trafford during the Tottenham Hotspur match before the final whistle was blown.
The Red Devils were leading 2-0 and Ronaldo was frustrated because he was not given a chance by Erik Ten Hag. As a result, Ronaldo’s actions were widely criticized by football experts and he was dropped from the team’s squad for the match against Chelsea.
Ronaldo took to Instagram to break his silence on the matter and admitted that he left the stadium in the heat of the moment. However, Erik Ten Hag later revealed that Ronaldo refused to come on during the Tottenham match.
Petit feels Ronaldo’s behavior is individualistic and he doesn’t think about the team.
The Frenchman said Mirror, “He [Ronaldo] tires everyone: the supporters, his teammates… They don’t want him anymore in the locker room, he pollutes everyone so much. He has an exceptional career, when he stops we will all be unanimous in saying it, but his behavior is so individualistic.”
Petit continued: “His message yesterday on social media. You know you don’t like what’s going on with your club, you can’t stand your coach Ten Hag anymore, you feel like you are disrespected for what you have done, but your status no longer exists!
“You are no longer the same player, you have been demoted, you have suffered a downgrade, but you do not accept it because your ego is so oversized. Say it real! It can’t be defensible.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United shared the spoils against the Blues as the match ended in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. Jorginho scored through a penalty for the home team but Casemiro scored his first goal for Manchester United in injury time.
