Bayern Munich left back Alphonso Davies out with ankle injury, misses Gold Cup action

Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies has been diagnosed with an ankle ligament tear which forced him to withdraw from the ongoing Gold Cup. The Bayern speedster was named in Canada’s 23 man squad for the continental tournament but unfortunately had to withdraw before their opening fixture against Martinique.

The Canadian camp took quick action and released a statement regarding Davies withdrawal from the Gold Cup. The youngster was headed to the Allianz Arena to undergo treatment on his ankle. Bayern have now released a statement describing the extent of the injury.

The Bavarians released a statement which states Alphonso davies’ current condition and the extent of his injury. I tread, “Alphonso Davies faces a period on the sidelines at FC Bayern.

“The 20-year-old suffered an LCL tear to his left ankle in Canada’s build-up to the Gold Cup. Davies has now returned to Munich for rehab.

“The injury will be managed without invasive treatment.”

An official time frame of the Canadian return is still unknown and will depend on how well he recovers from the problem. But looking at the extent of the injury and having prior experiences some rumours suggest that the young fullback could be out for at least four to six weeks before returning to training and then gradually easing things out on the field.

While it is a huge blow for Bayern as they will miss one of the regular players, the best part is that Davies does not require surgery on his ankle. The Bayern Munich camp are hopeful that davies’ will return earlier than the timeframe but they also don’t want to rush a player as things could very easily get out of hand.

New Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has already started the preseason training with some players and the early signs are very positive. Gradually the first team players will be joining the camp as they are on vacation after a gruelling season which was followed by the Copa America and European Championships. Bayern’s first preseason fixture is schedule don July 17 against Koln and there Nagelsmann will have a chance to test the club’s latest addition, Omar Richards.

The 23-year-old English left-back joins the club from Reading and has shown great skills to be a perfect fit in Bavaria. Despite his age, he has plied his trade in 92 Championship matches and that proves that he does not fizzle out under pressure. He was snapped up this summer to add more competition for Davies but now circumstances are such that, the former Reading fullback may start the season with Bayern.
