Barcelona will aim to make it three wins in their first three games of the 2024/25 La Liga season as they travel to Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday. Rayo Vallecano has managed to avoid defeat in their first two games of the season after beating Real Sociedad 2-1 on the opening weekend away from home and holding Getafe to a goalless draw.

While they have managed to maintain their impressive feat of winning their opening two games for the third season in a row, they haven’t won three opening games in a row, and a fixture against Barcelona may make that a difficult task. Their last attempt to win their first three games of a season in a row ended in a joint-biggest loss in the club’s history after a 7-0 defeat to Atlético Madrid last season.

Iñigo Pérez’s men face a Barcelona that has won its first two games of the season, too, but Rayo has avoided defeat in six of their last eight home league games, winning two and sharing points in their last three matches.

Barcelona changed their previous manager, Xavi, at the end of last season and replaced him with Hansi Flick, and he’s been able to record consecutive 2-1 wins to start his and Barcelona’s La Liga season. However, Tuesday’s fixture may prove tough as there will be pressure to win as games against Girona and Villarreal come up for the Blaugrana after the trip to Vallecano.

However, the German manager insists that while the intention is to win the La Liga, he’s taking it one game at a time.

“The goal is always to win the league. It’s a long road, but we’ve started well, but everything can change next week. Now we are happy with our start and we are confident. We are not looking to May, just to the next game against Rayo.” Flick said.
