Norwich City made a winning return to the Championship on Saturday as a late Adam Idah strike gave Daniel Farke’s side a smooth start to life in the 2nd Division.
The Canaries had relegated last season from the English Premier League, and their first game was at Huddersfield after losing in their first game of the season in the EFL Cup against Luton Town 3-1.
After a 0-0 first half, Adam Idah came in as a substitute in the 75th minute, and he scored the winning goal six minutes later after a Teemu Pukki assist.
The Canaries had a wonderful pre-season campaign in Germany with 3 wins and a draw beating Verl, Dynamo Dresden, and Darmstadt in the pre-season.
German manager of the side Daniel Farke revealed that the win is a delight to him, and he heaped praises on his players.
“Today, Adam will be in the spotlight, and I’m delighted for him because he’s a brilliant lad, but the goal says a lot about Teemu. He was criticised over the summer break but showed the mentality to be hard working. It was 95 percent a goal of Teemu, but he’s so selfless. I have to praise the mentality of my lads. On the bench, I had players who were not involved like Ben Gibson, Alex Tettey, and Jordan Hugill – unbelievably experienced lads – and they supported the players from the sideline and were delighted to win the game.” Farke told Norwich City’s website.
Norwich City will play Preston North End at the Carrow Road on the 19th of September before a trip to Vitality Stadium to face fellow relegated side Bournemouth.
The Cherries also won their first game back in the championship against Blackburn Rovers in a fantastic 3-2 win.
