Where Will Kevin Durant End Up?

Kevin Durant asked the Nets to trade him a few weeks ago but there has been little-to-no traction on any deal. Some sportsbooks even updated the betting odds for KD’s next team.

Durant’s situation has the NBA on hold. Free agents, teams and agents are all waiting for the two-time NBA champion to find a new squad before getting other deals done. Unfortunately, it seems that this may take a while and the Nets may decide not to move him.

KD still has four years left in his contract. The star forward dealt with multiple injuries lately and he obviously isn’t getting any younger, his window to win more NBA championships is closing. That said, Durant is still a Top 5 player in the league that could make many team instant championship contenders.

That’s precisely the reason why the Nets won’t settle for any offer… the team is asking for a lot in return for Durant and they would only trade him if they can get a huge haul, as they’re in no obligation to comply with KD’s trade request or demands of any sort.

The Miami Heat wants to trade for Durant but it may not be enough. The Suns were interested and KD wanted to play for them but they recently matched Deandre Ayton’s max contract offer, so he can’t be traded until January and the Nets would have wanted a package centered on him. Now it seems like the Heat are leading the race to trade for the two-time NBA Finals MVP.

“The Miami Heat currently can trade two of their own first-round draft picks,” Kurt Helin of NBC Sports reported. “That number could jump to three if the Heat can strike a deal with the Thunder to change the protections on their 2025 first-round pick (that pick is currently lottery protected, if it doesn’t convey the first year it is unprotected in 2026).”

“Two first-rounders are likely not enough to land Kevin Durant either, although the Nets are more focused on players and not simply picks,” Helin explained. “In the case of Durant, the Nets want an All-Star and the buzz from league sources is they are lukewarm on a Herro and Robinson package, even with more picks.”

The Nets are favored to keep Kevin Durant. Any trade for Durant seems unlikely right now, given the Nets’ asking price for the four years left in KD’s trade. According to ClutchPoints Bets, the Nets are the odds favorites for where Durant will play next season, followed by the Heat, Raptors and Suns. The Nets have a 33.3 percent chance to keep KD, the Heat have a 23.5 percent chance to trade for him, the Raptors 21.1 percent and the Suns 14.3 percent.

The Raptors could make an offer that includes Scottie Barnes and Pat Riley could make a miracle for the Heat as he’s done in the past but right now it seems like Kevin Durant isn’t going anywhere.
