NBA Analyst Stephen A Smith wants the Mavericks management to sign more players to support their talisman Luka Doncic

The Dallas Mavericks have not been that much active in the offseason, something which they should be according to NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith. Apart from tying down Luka Doncic to a supermax rookie deal, the Mavs have not made any signing this summer.

NBA fans expected the Mavs to go all in and sign several players to stack up the roster and support Doncic in his quest to win the NBA Championship for the city of Dallas. Last season proved that it was mostly Doncic who was trying to keep up with the other teams as Kristaps Porzingis showed signs of struggle. While Tim Hardaway Jr was really very good for the Mavs, they need more players like him to support the young Slovenian.

Doncic is easily one of the best players out there in the NBA. The guard who can also slot in as a forward has shown that despite being only 22, he can lead a team with aplomb. He had made a name for himself with his exceptional performances in the NBA over the last few years and now he wants to take the big leap in winning the title. But it is very clear that Doncic lacks the support needed to win games against the top teams like the LA Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, etc.

Stephen A. Smith recently analysed the whole situation and came to a conclusion that Doncic lacks support and Mavs front office has not done anything to fill in that void. “As good as Luka Doncic is, he can’t do it by himself in Dallas. Even though he averaged 31 in his debut playoff series a year ago. Dallas still lost in the first round. Even though he averaged 35 this year in the playoffs, putting up 46 in Game-7, Mavericks still lost to the Clippers. There’s not much more Luka can do, but there’s a hell of a lot more Mavs owner Mark Cuban can do,” exclaimed Stephen A. Smith.

The Mavericks managed to push the Los Angeles Clippers right to the edge by going 2-0 up in the playoffs. But then Kawhi Leonard and company came back to defeat the Mavs in seven games. It was a very tight affair and Doncic needed someone to step up. But unfortunately, the Mavs were beaten by a better team over the course of seven games. This is what Stephen A. Smith pointed out. He was not happy with the situation and requested the owners to wake up and address the issue.

Speaking on his show, he demanded that the Mavericks owners wake up. “I’m serious here. The city deserves better. It’s time for Mark Cuban to do what it takes to build an actual roster. Luka needs more than a coach; he needs talent around him.”

Things are not really very bright for Dallas Mavericks at the moment. But that can change very quickly with two or three signings in the offseason. They already have Luka Doncic who can cause mayhem against any team in the league and with more support, the Mavs can easily turn into a contender for the upcoming season.
