It has been a tough time for Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant, who has been now suspended by the organization for his various off the field controbversies. Recently Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins demanded accountability from his talisman for his actions. His off the field controversies have been in the limelight in the last few weeks.
Jenkins feels morant should take a lesson out of all this and get better. Ahead fo the Clippers clash, Jenkins said, “This is a tough time for a young kid that has to grow and get better. He has huge responsibilities, not just for the team, but for the city.”
It has been rough for Morant in the last few weeks as he has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. It all started when his father, Tee and his friend had an argument with a few Indiana Pacers’ players during the game.
Things escalated off the court when Morant aggressively confronted the Pacers players near the team bus. Things even got worse when Morant allegedly with his associated were in a slow moving SUV pointed red lasers at the Pacers team bus. However NBA did not find enough evidence on this matter.
But that was not the end as Morant’s hothead attitude was visible as he landed himself in soup as reports suggest that he was seen pointing a gun towards a 17-year-old who he had beaten up after a pick-up game.
While Morant and his entourage has denied all these claims, but his rection action of flashing a gun during insta live gave NBA enough reasons to suspend him and also investigate his actions.
Initial reports from the Grizzlies camp came that the team had suspended him for two games for flashing a gun during Instagram live. But later Jenkins clarified that the suspension would be indefinite.
“We have said that it’s going to be at least these two games,” Jenkins said. “I mean, this is going be an ongoing healing process. … It’s really not a timetable situation,” he said regarding the situation.
He udnerstands the seriousness of the situation and feels that it must be given utmost care for someone who needs help and also needs to get better. “We’re taking this very seriously,” Jenkins said. “There’s a supportive element for someone that’s got to get better and needs some help. But then there’s also accountability to the team that we’ve got to stand for,” he added.
Ja Morant has taken full responsibility for his actions and has apologised to his family, teammates, the city of Memphis. He shared that he would take time off to seek help. It is unfortunately that NBA fans and the league as a whole will not see someone as talented as Morant in action for sometime now.
