NBA expert Bill Oram, who writes for the Athletic questioned LeBron James after he had a stellar season for the Lakers. Oram opined it’s fair to wonder if individual greatness is enough for LeBron James if the Lakers are going to be mediocre.
Lakers had a poor run in NBA 2021-22 season as they could not even qualify for the play-in tournament after their loss against Phoenix Suns. However, James had an amazing season personally as he was averaging 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists. Furthermore, the talisman was averaging more minutes since playing for Cleveland Cavaliers in his career.
James was at his absolute best but he didn’t get the support from his teammates. Anthony Davis was once again injured for the major part of the season while Russell Westbrook could not bring his A-game to the court.
Oram wrote for the Athletic, “Individually, he was brilliant, averaging 30.3 points per game — his most in 14 years — posting a pair of 50-point games and putting himself in position to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer next season. But the Lakers were, and for now remain a historic disaster. And whatever comes next, it’s not certain they will be less of one next season or beyond. As James prepares for his third early offseason in four seasons with the Lakers, it’s fair to wonder if individual greatness is enough for him if the Lakers are going to be mediocre.”
It was a disappointing season for LA Lakers despite LeBron James’ individual brilliance. James is still going strong in his career of 19 years in the NBA but he would want more support from his teammates, which he didn’t get this season.
James will miss the last two matches for the Lakers due to soreness in his knee. Lakers will play their last match of the season against Denver Nuggets on Sunday.
