One of the reasons why the New York Knicks are in such great form is because of Julius Randle’s heroics this season. They recently hosted Atlanta Hawks who were also doing well having won five out of their last six matches. It was a great match where the tides kept on shifting to either side and finally, the Knicks edged it at overtime powered by Randle’s heroics as he dropped 40 points.
The Knicks were already on a seven-game winning streak ahead of this game and now they have even taken it further after a crucial 137-127 overtime win over the Hawks.
Randle has been exceptional this season and the former Lakers’ man is leading the race to win the Most Improved Player award this season. He made a great case for it again when he dropped 40 points which was his third 40+ game this season, most by a Knicks player.
Hence former NBA champion and analyst Kendrick Perkins took to Twitter to laud the Knicks power forward. He tweeted, “Like I said Julius Randle is on the MVP CONVERSATION. He put a causal 40 piece wing dinner Lemon Pepper style with 11 rebounds and 6 assists with W! Btw the Knicks are currently on an 8 game winning streak! Carry the hell on…”
The Knicks are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 33-27 and it has been mostly inspired by Randle who has led the charge. However the 26-year-old is focused to keep going as there’s a long way to go in the regular season as well.
“Fourth place sounds good. But like I said, we’re not done yet. We got a long way to go. It’s not about just getting a fourth-place or whatever it is, we’re trying to build something here,” Randle said at the postgame interview.
“We’re trying to build a culture, we’re trying to do things the right way. And we have a team where everybody believes in each other, so we feel like we can do anything. Anything is possible for us.”
Maybe a shot at MVP is a little too far fetched but if Randle can continue this onslaught for the Knicks then the sky is their only limit at the moment. Players like Reggie Bullock, Elfrid Payton, RJ Barrett, Derrick Rose and others are all oozing with energy and positivity and they feel they can beat anyone in the league right now.
