Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant is back on the news as he flashed a gun again on social media on Saturday. After the incident became viral, former Grizzlies player Chandler Parsons, who made it to the All-Rookie Team in 2012 wants the organization to suspend him for an entire season.
The Grizzlies have suspended him from all team activities as the NBA investigates the situation. However, Morant has not commented on the latest incident. Parsons, who featured for Grizzlies from 2016 to 2019 wants the NBA to take strict action against him. He wants Morant banned for the entirety of the next season.
Notably, Morant was already banned for eight games for the previous gun incident back in March.
“Suspend him all of next season,” Parsons wrote on a Bleacher Report Instagram post.
The video that went viral had Morant dancing to some music on the passenger seat of a car. The video was shot by one of his friends and just then, Morant flashed his gun to show off. The person shooting the video immediately pulled the phone away. But the damage was already down by then.
A photo of Morant with the firearm went viral on social media and Grizzlies announced the suspension soon after.
“We are aware of the social media post involving Ja Morant and are in the process of gathering more information,” NBA spokesperson Mike Bass told The Athletic.
Morant was in the spotlight for several wrongdoings but most of them were excused by the NBA. But things went overboard when he flashed a gun at the Denver nightclub. He was suspended for eight games and went to stress management.
After the Grizzlies were knocked out of the playoffs, Morant went on to say that the off-court issues have distracted the team. “I’ve just got to be better with my decision-making,” Morant said via ESPN last month. “That’s pretty much it. Off-the-court issues affected us as an organization pretty much. Just [need] more discipline.”
Despite finishing second in the Western Conference with a record of 51-31, the Grizzlies were knocked over by the Los Angeles Lakers 4-2 in the first round of the playoffs. They were only behind the Denver Nuggets in the West but simply could not replicate that form in the playoffs.
