Draymond Green has committed his future to Golden State Warriors after putting pen to paper on a new four-year extension for the California franchise. With the deal starting after next season, Green is expected to earn $100m from his new contract, with $22.2m to be received in the first year.
That will increase each season and the 29-year-old will earn a staggering £27.6m going into his final year with the Warriors on his new deal. Green’s first task will be to try and help the Warriors get back on top in the NBA after they suffered defeat to the Toronto Raptors in the Finals last term.
That upset against the Raptors saw the Warriors’ run of two straight titles come to an end but Green is adamant Golden State will bounce back. “I think everybody thinks it’s kind of the end of us,” Green said after the Warriors lost a six-game series to Toronto in the NBA Finals.
“But that’s just not smart. We’re not done yet. … But, yeah, I hear a lot of that noise, ‘It’s the end of a run’ and all that jazz. I don’t see it happening though. We’ll be back.”
Things might be a little tougher for the Warriors to regain the title as they lost two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant to the Brooklyn Nets over the offseason.
Golden State find themselves at 13.00 to regain their crown, while the LA Lakers are the early 4.75 favourites to lift the trophy come the end of the season.
